Turning 20

Every year, I write a birthday wishlist because, to be honest, I would much rather people get me stuff that I’m going to use and really, it takes all the hassle out of buying stuff for me. Over the last couple of years, I’ve noticed that I’m leaning towards necessities now- textbook vouchers, clothing basics, etc.

This year’s list is no different-
1. Nice, blue, skinny jeans (I only own one pair of jeans and they’re starting to lose their shape/elasticity)
2. A USyd hoodie
3. Vouchers for the Co-Op bookshop (for textbooks!)

And if all else fails, I love flowers.

.. I can’t believe I’ll be 20 in 3 days!

Haiti

I am so sick of reading articles about all the Australians still unaccounted for in Haiti. There’s been an estimated death toll of 100 000 so really, I think we can get over the fact that there are Australians missing because the reality is that there are people missing from everywhere, there are Haitians who have had their lives destroyed, there are people still buried in the rubble. Let’s talk about that instead, ok?

Shyness

I hate shy people. That must sound ridiculous, but I do and even worse, I’m being an awful hypocrite because I used to be pretty introverted- hated meeting people, wouldn’t speak unless spoken to, that sorta thing. Then, one day, I decided to get over myself because clearly, people were not obsessing over the stupid thing that I’d just said- they really did not care that I had runs in my tights, or that I mistook China for Africa (true story- 8th grade Geography class) or whatever else I was freaking out- and it must’ve worked out because very few people would describe me as shy nowadays.

I also get really annoyed at shy people now- maybe because I’m impatient and shy people seem to have developed a universal procedure where, before speaking, they have to look awkwardly around the room, down at the floor, back around the room, open their mouths, pause, and then speak. It takes forever!

Actually, it’s a little sad to think about all the things that people aren’t doing because they’re too shy.

Costume Contest

Haha, so Jess and I are planning our combined 20th birthday party and it is going to be excellent, even if it’s like, six weeks away. The theme is the letters C and J (no points for figuring out why) except I’m stumped as to what I could go as.. the only thing I can think of is cat, and that’s rather unoriginal.

SO. I’m throwing it open to you guys. Best suggestion (anything starting with the letter C or J, if that wasn’t made clear) wins a domain (com, net, org) as does one random entry, plus I’ll try really hard to actually dress up as whatever you suggest!

If it helps, I have a high embarrassment threshold

Really, 2009 has been all sorts of amazing. I am continually grateful for how amazing my friends are, and still kinda amazed at how they can deal with the fuckery that is me, being ridiculous ALL THE TIME and not being able take my own advice except for yesterday when I did and it wasn’t awkward or awful (at least, I hope not) and then I was strangely and ridiculously cheerful because y’know, I did it and I know this sounds silly, but I am so relieved now.

The reality is that I did everything I wanted to do this year, and I can wrap up this year (and decade, omg) and say it was a great one.

Have a fantastic new year, kiddles, and I’ll see you on the other side!
